• A vehicle modified to change engine power for vehicles manufactured before January 1, 2010, South Australia, prohibits P badges from driving the vehicle if it has done the following: Victoria`s Minister for Roads, Terry Mulder, announced this week that from July this year, the rules for P-platers would change from an effective blanket ban. which covers almost all cars equipped with gasoline-powered turbochargers. and single-reference V8 based on a vehicle`s power-to-weight ratio. In addition, Victoria allows P-platlers to drive certain Ford Ecoboost, Holden turbo and Nissan turbo vehicles (without exemption) provided they have a power-to-weight ratio identifier on the date of build plate (vehicles manufactured before January 1, 2010) indicating that they have less than 130 kW per tonne of power per weight. If you are over 21 years old and have passed your driving test, go directly to your green P license plates, which you must hold for 3 years before applying for a full licence. If you`re a P-platler and wondering why you`re being selected, these are statistics that show that P-plattlers are more likely to be involved in a road accident. Victorian P-platers may also operate vehicles under the club licence registration system (i.e. under the system for vehicles 25 years of age or older), unless the vehicle has different engine power changes than those made by the vehicle manufacturer. Life as a young person should be relaxed and relaxing. But when it comes to driving, sometimes it seems like the opposite! If you are on your P licence and working towards getting your full licence, there are a number of P licence plate restrictions and P licence plate rules that you need to be aware of and follow. This is how the general Victorian traffic rules.

“There are a few V8-powered vehicles (on the list), but they`re also usually in fairly heavy bodies, which reduces the vehicle`s performance to an acceptable level for a P-flatter,” he said. A list of VicRoads P license plates and more information can be found here. Below is a handy guide to state-to-state P-license plate vehicle restrictions that will give you an idea of what the best P-marker approved cars are. “Today, many manufacturers use small or medium-sized turbocharged or supercharged engines to improve fuel economy,” he said. He said some smaller cars had a turbo as standard, which limited the choice of car. “It doesn`t matter how many cylinders the vehicle has, what type of fuel the vehicle consumes, or whether the vehicle is turbocharged or supercharged. What matters is the size of the engine versus the size of the car,” Mulder said. Parents of P badges can buy their child a luxury car with turbocharged after the ban on previously restricted cars for new drivers was lifted at the end of June. If you`re coming from another state or territory, there are strict guidelines for P-Platter-approved cars, including heavy, supercharged, and V8-powered turbo cars, which are absolutely prohibited in most cases (although in some places some of the cars mentioned above may be on a P-sign list of legal cars, as the requirements are based on power-to-weight ratio guidelines for P-plateurs). The 130 kilowatt per tonne limit for vehicles built from 2010 onwards will give P badges access to thousands of new vehicles previously banned, from a 63kW Fiat 500 twin-cylinder turbocharger to a 179kW four-cylinder Ford Falcon. According to the new decision, a P-plate driver can even get behind the wheel of a 6.6-liter V12 sedan with a twin-turbo engine. NSW`s 130 kW per tonne rule applies to almost all vehicles and therefore opens up the possibility for P-plattlers to drive forced induction vehicles or vehicles with eight or more cylinders – provided they meet the power/weight limit.

Prior to August 2014, almost all of these cars were banned from license plates P. Michael Case, RACV`s head of vehicle engineering, said the new system is simpler and easier to understand, giving P-plate drivers more choices. “People have equated turbochargers and compressors with `high power,` well, yes, you can use them for high power, but manufacturers typically use them to make an engine much more efficient and especially to improve fuel economy,” Case said. If you`re on your P licence plates in the Northern Territory, ACT, Tasmania or Western Australia, you`re in luck: there are no P licence plate laws that limit the type of vehicle you drive. VicRoads adjusted its policy in 2012 when it announced that P-Plattler would be allowed to drive vehicles with a power-to-weight ratio of up to 130kW/1000kg, a rule change brought about by the introduction of small-displacement turbocharged vehicles. Since ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law, there is a lot to consider for Victorian P-plate drivers, we understand that! P license plate restrictions are confusing at first, but you`ll get used to them and get used to driving them. This, of course, ignores the ever-changing safety features of cars, meaning there are voices calling on state governments to rethink their policies regarding P-platers. New laws have been introduced in Victoria that lift the ban on test licence holders driving certain heavy-duty vehicles such as V8, turbo and supercharged engines. “In the past, all eight-cylinder cars and all gasoline cars with turbos or superchargers were banned,” Mulder said. Recent changes to restrictions on P-licence plate vehicles in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia allow these drivers to drive a vehicle with a power-to-weight ratio of less than 130 kW per tonne.

There is a blanket ban on all turbocharged vehicles for drivers of P license plates before July 1, and the ban will continue for cars built before 2010. From the banned list come luxury cars from Audi, BMW, Toyota and Nissan, although some are at the cheapest end of the list. To determine which vehicles are legally allowed to drive, a simple power-to-weight ratio calculation is performed by: After passing the driving test, you will receive either your red P number plates or your green P number plates. If you are under 21, you will receive your P1 driver`s licence or red P number plates. You must stay on the red P plates for one year before you can apply for your green P, which you must have for three years before you can apply for a full license. Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia have restrictions on P-plate vehicles, while P-tacklers in the ACT, Northern Territory, Western Australia and Tasmania are not restricted by performance restrictions. P license plate license holders in these states and territories can drive anything an unrestricted driver can do in the classroom with less than 4.5 tons of GVM driver`s license. For Queensland, this means that a P-platler cannot drive: all vehicles with eight or more cylinders; gasoline vehicles with supercharger or turbocharger (forced diesel vehicles are allowed); all vehicles with a power greater than 210 kW; and all gyroscopes with a displacement greater than 1146cc. He said young drivers could miss out on job opportunities in the rural and agricultural sectors due to their limited car options.

“The change in the guidelines will open up better employment opportunities for P-Plattler in regional areas by removing restrictions on vehicles such as the Toyota LandCruiser, which are favored by the agricultural sector. It`s a matter of practicality, as many eight-cylinder vehicles are heavy and therefore unable to accelerate quickly,” Mulder said. Mulder said the new power-to-weight ratio definition will also reduce bureaucracy by removing the need for process exemptions for low-horsepower turbocharged vehicles. Exceptions that can be powered by a P-platler are: Suzuki Cappuccino 2D Cabriolet Turbo 3 657-698cc (1992-1997); Daihatsu Copen L880 2D Cabriolet Turbo 4,659cc (2003 or later); Smart Fortwo Coupe 2D Turbo 3,698cc (2000 or later); Smart Fortwo Cabriolet Turbo 3 2D 698cc (2000 or later); Smart Roadster Turbo 3 2D 698cc (2000 or higher); Toyota LandCruiser. The list of registered vehicles can be found here and more details on vehicle restrictions for P-marking in Queensland can be found here. However, it also opens the door to vehicles such as a 298kW Nissan Patrol 5.6-liter V8 engine, a Mercedes-Benz ML400 245kW 3.0-liter V6 engine, faster than a Hot Hatch at 100km/h, and a Porsche Cayenne with a hybrid engine and supercharged V6 under the hood.
